Cornell University researchers have revealed a process that has
stumped scientists for many years: exactly how an acid derived from vitamin
A enters a cell's nucleus, where it has strong anti-carcinogenic effects.
Discovery of this basic transport mechanism opens a new door for future
research on related compounds. The finding has important implications for
the fight against cancer and other diseases.
The research, which appears in a recent issue of the journal Molecular Cell
(Vol. 18, No. 3), explains for the first time how the cancer-fighting
vitamin A derivative retinoic acid (RA) gains entry into a cell's nucleus.
When vitamin A enters a cell's cytoplasm (the portion that lies between the
outer membrane and the nucleus), it can be converted to RA, a member of a
group of compounds that enter a cell's nucleus and play a role in triggering
transcription. This is a basic process for relaying genetic information and
switching genes on and off. In this role, RA can inhibit tumor growth. In
fact, past clinical trials have shown that RA can help treat leukemia, head,
neck and breast cancer.
RA and its synthetic derivatives may also be useful in treatment of
diabetes,
arteriosclerosis and
emphysema. Unfortunately, conventional treatments using RA require high,
toxic doses, and tumors can develop resistance to the treatment.

Acetaminophen Use Associated with Asthma, COPD, and
Decreased Lung Function

In a large, cross-sectional study, researchers found that increased use of
the pain killer acetaminophen was associated with a greater prevalence of
asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as directly
related to decreased lung function if used daily, according to an article in
the first issue for May 2005 of the American Thoracic Society's
peer-reviewed American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine.
British researchers studied data from 13,492 persons who were part of the
Third National Health and Nutrition Survey (NHAMES III), a U.S. study which
took place from 1988 to 1994. Among other questions, participants in NHAMES
III were asked whether they had taken aspirin, acetaminophen, and ibuprofen
during the previous month. Their replies were divided into "never users;"
"occasional users" (1 to 5 times in the past month); "regular users" (6 to
29 times during the past month); and "daily users" (more than 29 times
during the last month).
According to the researchers, prior animal studies had shown that
acetaminophen could deplete an antioxidant found in airway epithelial lung
fluid which could ultimately damage the tissue.

THE CHOLESTEROL MYTH
The tragedy of science is the slaying of a beautiful hypothesis by an ugly

Over the past couple of decades there has been a growing concern about fats
and cholesterol. Dieticians, nutritionists and doctors have been telling us
that fat is a killer. Governments have introduced national policies based
around its reduction. Eat less cholesterol, saturated fat and salt, eat more
fibre-rich foods we are all told. The evidence is incontrovertible that if
we do not, we are doomed to the West's greatest killer - heart disease.
But is the evidence so clear? Despite the certainty implied by the
propaganda, the debate continues in the medical journals, behind the scenes.
Is diet a killer? Apart from those with a very rare disease, has cholesterol
got anything to do with heart disease - or any other disease? And even if it
has, will a change of diet be beneficial?
Like all debates, this one about cholesterol has two sides. The Cholesterol
Myth explores the evidence on which present healthy eating' dietary
recommendations are based.
Much of the evidence used in the cholesterol debate is complex.
Nevertheless, with so much of only one side of the debate having been
published and your having been subjected to so much that is misleading, I
will try to explain the other side in as much detail as this paper allows.
The Truth about Cholesterol
Here are the facts! Click on the blue arrows if you want the scientific
evidence!
1 Cholesterol is not a deadly poison, but a substance vital to the cells of
all mammals. There are no such things as good or bad cholesterol, but mental
stress, physical activity and change of body weight may influence
the level of blood cholesterol. A high cholesterol is not dangerous by
itself, but may reflect an unhealthy condition, or it may be totally
innocent.
2 A high blood cholesterol is said to promote atherosclerosis and thus also
coronary heart disease. But many studies have shown that people whose blood
cholesterol is low become just as atherosclerotic as people whose
cholesterol is high.
3 Your body produces three to four times more cholesterol than you eat. The
production of cholesterol increases when you eat little cholesterol and
decreases when you eat much. This explains why the ”prudent” diet cannot
lower cholesterol more than on average a few per cent.
4 There is no evidence that too much animal fat and cholesterol in the diet
promotes atherosclerosis or heart attacks. For instance, more than twenty
studies have shown that people who have had a heart attack haven't
eaten more fat of any kind than other people, and degree of atherosclerosis
at autopsy is unrelated with the diet.
5 The only effective way to lower cholesterol is with drugs, but neither
heart mortality or total mortality have been improved with drugs the effect
of which is cholesterol-lowering only. On the contrary, these drugs are
dangerous to your health and may shorten your life.
6 The new cholesterol-lowering drugs, the statins, do prevent
cardio-vascular disease, but this is due to other mechanisms than
cholesterol-lowering. Unfortunately, they also stimulate cancer in rodents,
disturb the functions of the muscles, the heart and the brain and pregnant
women taking statins may give birth to children with malformations more
severe than those seen after thalidomide.
7 Many of these facts have been presented in scientific journals and books
for decades but are rarely told to the public by the proponents of the
diet-heart idea.
8 The reason why laymen, doctors and most scientists have been misled is
because opposing and disagreeing results are systematically ignored or
misquoted in the scientific press.

Flu Shot Season - Think twice before you shoot!.
According to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world's leading immunogeneticist and

What is Diabetes
When you have type 2 diabetes, your body is unable to properly use the sugar
called glucose.
Glucose is created when your body breaks down food to use for energy. Your
body uses glucose as its main source of fuel with the help of a hormone
called insulin. Insulin acts like a key to unlock the body’s cells, so
glucose can enter and serve as fuel for the cells. This is how most people’s
bodies maintain a fairly normal amount of sugar in the bloodstream. That’s
not the case with type 2 diabetes. People with type 2 diabetes can’t
maintain normal sugar levels. This happens either because the body doesn’t
make enough insulin, or because the body can’t use its own natural insulin
properly—a process called insulin resistance. High blood sugar sets off
processes that can lead to complications, like heart, kidney, and eye
disease, or other serious problems. The good news is that healthy eating,
exercise, and, possibly, medication can help.
Natural Cure for Diabetes
Here we have more powerful proof that the trace elements provide a natural

Our Deadly Diabetes Deception
If you are an American diabetic, your physician will never tell you that
most cases of diabetes are curable. In fact, if you even mention the "cure"
word around him, he will likely become upset and irrational. His medical
school training only allows him to respond to the word "treatment". For him,
the "cure" word does not exist. Diabetes, in its modern epidemic form, is a
curable disease and has been for at least 40 years. In 2001, the most recent
year for which US figures are posted, 934,550 Americans died from
out-of-control symptoms of this disease.1
Your physician will also never tell you that, at one time, strokes, both
ischaemic and haemorrhagic, heart failure due to neuropathy as well as both
ischaemic and haemorrhagic coronary events, obesity, atherosclerosis,
elevated blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, elevated triglycerides,
impotence, retinopathy, renal failure, liver failure, polycystic ovary
syndrome, elevated blood sugar, systemic candida, impaired carbohydrate
metabolism, poor wound healing, impaired fat metabolism, peripheral
neuropathy as well as many more of today's disgraceful epidemic disorders
were once well understood often to be but symptoms of diabetes.
If you contract diabetes and depend upon orthodox medical treatment, sooner
or later you will experience one or more of its symptoms as the disease
rapidly worsens. It is now common practice to refer to these symptoms as if
they were separable, independent diseases with separate, unrelated
treatments provided by competing medical specialists.
It is true that many of these symptoms can and sometimes do result from
other causes; however, it is also true that this fact has been used to
disguise the causative role of diabetes and to justify expensive,
ineffective treatments for these symptoms.
Epidemic Type II diabetes is curable. By the time you get to the end of this
article, you are going to know that. You're going to know why it isn't

United Nations’ Codex Guidelines for dietary supplements are expected to be
finalized sometime this summer. These guidelines will have provisions for
establishing recommended upper limits on the amounts of each nutrient to be
permitted in dietary supplements.
It is currently projected that these upper limits may be restrictive. Some
authorities see no threat from the Codex Guidelines to the availability of
dietary supplements in the U.S., while others insist that these Codex
recommendations, which are totally voluntary, will in some way be imposed on
the U.S. through the World Trade Organization that recognizes Codex
standards in some trade disputes.
Some are concerned that if these restrictive standards are adopted by the
United Nations and the European Union, it will greatly strengthen drug
companies and other opponents of dietary supplements in their efforts to
have more restrictive legislation passed in the United States.
